He’s beldi, street and modern at the same time.
He wears a traditional Moroccan tarbouch, dark sunglasses and a scarf covered in little hearts.
Then look at his hands: nail art. Masculine and feminine codes live together in the same character.
Traditional references mix with street culture and a new generation that doesn’t feel the need to choose one box. Tarbouch, hearts, sunglasses, nail art, old codes, new attitude.
Our Titiza girl
In Darija, Titiza is a playful way to say “pretty girl.”
His Titiza is right behind him, licking her thumb because the sandwich is just that good.
On her skin, you can see Amazigh-inspired tattoos, bringing a traditional Moroccan reference into the colourful, pop universe of the illustration.
She represents the same idea as the whole T-shirt: Moroccan heritage isn’t frozen in the past. It can evolve, be playful and belong to today.
Titiza IN MACHI MOUCHKIL
At Machi Mouchkil, it’s also the name of our bestseller: the KOB Titiza, made with djej daghmira, chicken with a slow-cooked onion sauce, olives and fries, stuffed inside our batbout bread.
In the illustration, he’s eating his Titiza… while his Titiza, his girlfriend is standing right behind him. That’s the joke 😌
Atay ?! OF COURSE
Atay, the Moroccan / Darija word for tea, is more than a drink. It’s a ritual of hospitality: you sit, pour, talk, welcome people and take your time.
That’s why it sits at the heart of the illustration.
Something deeply traditional and familiar, placed inside a very contemporary Moroccan scene.
Who’s the artist ?
Selma Missoum, aka Never Not Awkward, is a Moroccan illustrator whose universe mixes Moroccan heritage, pop culture, bold colours and contemporary codes.
Her work takes familiar references from Morocco and puts them into unexpected, playful and modern situations.
We like to call it Beldi Pop Art. And Atay O Titiza is exactly that:
Atay. A Titiza sandwich. A pretty girl. A tarbouch. Amazigh tattoos. Nail art. And Morocco, without choosing between yesterday and tomorrow.
